I feel like this is somewhat evocative of Poe's The Raven, but it may just be in the Title Evermore. Perhaps less dark but calling up a similar sense of loss and yearning.

I guess "Quoth the raven, Evermore" in my last note created a certain expectation. I wrote this 19 years ago in a more verbose Poe-like style with rhyme and meter everywhere and verbal flourishes, but decided to pare it down for more minimalism and a free verse feel, as my style has evolved a ton, and the newer version felt truer to me.

I was going to basically say a less eloquent version of this.

Will I be very out of place if I say it’s so good I wanna cry? (I do get dramatic like that.) There’s something about going from the eeriness of a shrouded guest to offering it a can of soda, so satisfying. So integrated.

Thank you so so much! I’m sure I channeled this one.

Maybe enlightenment is being able to take a compliment without shrinking away from it, while not letting it get to your head. Have a long way to go yet.

Maybe. That and fame are probably one of the strongest ego temptations. At least that’s what it looks like from where I am. Maybe it’s different for everyone

Really good stuff. I once offered a ghost a coke and never heard from it again. Maybe that's all the wicked long for, a good pop.

🤣 Thank you!
